Brooke Basta

Princess of Baltimore Yacht Club

My name is Brooke Basta, I am 18 years old, and I am the Princess of Baltimore Yacht Club. Last year I graduated from The John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland. During my four years at John Carroll, I was the President of the National Art Honor Society, a member of the Quill and Scroll Society, the cartoonist for the school’s newspaper, and I played the violin in the orchestra. Being a movie-buff, I was also the President of the Film club.  I especially like classic films such as Casablanca, Key Largo, and The Philadelphia Story.

I am currently a full-time student at Harford Community College and my major is Graphic Art and Design. I am a designer for the OWL Magazine, which is a student-organized publication.  I am also on the “President’s List” for having a 3.84 GPA for my first semester. My plan is to continue my education at Towson University to obtain my Bachelor’s Degree.

Besides school, I enjoy boating and spending time with my family. I have been boating since I was a year old and have so many wonderful memories. My parents are Henry and Kim Basta and I have one older brother named Henry. I love drawing and painting during my free time; art is my life.  As a freelance artist, I created my own business called“Art-Sea Prints”, where my focus is the Chesapeake Bay. I have already sold 21 paintings and I just started my company in August of 2011. I’m so proud of this because it has always been my dream to sell my artwork.

I have grown up on the Chesapeake Bay and absolutely love everything about it. My family joined Baltimore Yacht Club in 2008 and I truly think of them as my second family. That’s one reason why I wanted to be the Princess of BYC. I wanted to repay the club for all of the wonderful times I have enjoyed with them and for all of their kindness. My focus this year as Princess has been to help raise money for the American Cancer Society in honor of all of our friends and family whose lives have been touched by this terrible disease.

I have met so many wonderful people around the Bay and I am really looking forward to this summer. I honestly can say that I have enjoyed every “royal” moment as the Princess of Baltimore Yacht Club!
